What is
Layer 3 hardware
?
Layer 3 hardware is a type of network hardware that is used to read and forward data across a network. It works by reading the IP addresses contained within each packet of data and forwarding them to their destination. Layer 3 hardware is most commonly used in corporate networks, but can also be integrated into home networks for increased security. Layer 3 hardware helps protect against cyberattacks by authenticating users before allowing access to the network, and by detecting malicious traffic before it reaches its intended destination. It also offers additional features like Quality of Service (QoS) for prioritizing important traffic, as well as features like Network Address Translation (NAT) for hiding private IP addresses from public view. By providing these extra layers of protection, Layer 3 hardware helps ensure that data remains secure while it is transferred across the network.
